amalgamator

Dentists use an amalgam to fix a tooth. Because it is so durable, amalgam lasts a long time and made from multiple metals. Previously, dentists were required to mix this material by hand using a small tool called a spatula. This was a long and tedious process. Other times the mix was uneven, chunky and/or had air bubbles. The presence of air bubbles will weaken the repair and cause it to be more brittle.

In the case of amalgam, dentists must mix a powdered form and liquid mercury in exact amounts (1:2.75 ratio) rapidly before it sets up or hardens into filling material - prior to The Amalgamator that is. My dentist does the mixing himself, but he uses a little machine called an Amalgamator to do it. Materials are taken by the dentist and simply placed into the Amalgamator which is then turned on. The machine whirls the materials around until they become a uniform mixture. This allows the amalgam to be used significantly sooner than we could have in the past.

Efficient Amalgam Mixing with the Amalgamator

The Amalgamator is a magnet for the people who love precision and specificity. In other words, when dentists mix it up group the amalgam they can control exactly and scientifically how much of each component there is in that batch. This is very important as an inadequate amount / excess of amalgam can give rise to failures in the repair of tooth. And if it is sparse, the repair may not adhere as strongly. If you have too much, it will allow exist another problems. Removing bubbles of air is one way the Amalgamator strengthens a repair; without it, an excess of trapped gas would prevent optimum use.

The Amalgamato is very convenient for the dentist as well. They really did, because you used to have a whole heap of time and work tied up in getting those materials ready, especially when they had to hand mix the amalgam. This in turn, gave them fewer time to give attention to different essential work that was once long-overdue. However, the dentists are not wasting their time in preparing amalgam as they can now use the Amalgamator to mix an alloy of quicksilver. Once mixed, they were able to move on to the next patient in no time flat.
